The Face Kit Explained!

7/21/2016

Hi gals! I hope you’re having a great summer! Lately, I’ve gotten some questions about where the idea for the Pop of Pink Face Kits came from, so here’s the scoop. I decided to coordinate colors in a face kit format for a few reasons, but it all boils down to making life simpler.

Throughout the last 15 years as a make-up artist, many clients seemed overwhelmed with color choices at the make-up counter. There were too many pretty colors to choose from and then they wondered how to coordinate and blend them to create a look.

I firmly believe that make-up should NOT be complicated, so I set out to create a simple routine for all women - no matter their coloring or their style - and the face kit was born!
Each Kit is Inspired
I use my years of experience, love of color, and also a natural instinct to choose the colors for the face kits. I started with three kits. The “Go Natural” is the most versatile kit with browns and natural tones. “Be Colorful” is just as named with a pink, plum and coral palette. The “Stay Beautiful” kit is a traditional mix of grays and taupes for a more smoky effect.

I’m also inspired by the seasons and last winter I created two more kits: “Simply Matte,” a matte palette without any shimmer, and “Look Bold” for the gal that wants to create a dramatic smoky eye. The “Feel Pretty” face kit came out this spring with its pretty pop of color alongside beautiful bronzy tones.

I’m excited to launch a new face kit this fall that is inspired by the “glam girl” in all of us. Stay tuned!

How do I Choose?
Another question I get is: “Which Pop of Pink Face Kit is for me?” Each face kit includes a color palette that can truly accentuate any woman’s beauty - no matter her skin tone or style. Many clients collect all of the kits to use for different occasions or moods.

So, if you have an event or a fun night out and want to go with a dramatic, smoky eye, you’ll use the “Look Bold” kit. If you wake up in the morning for a day around town and just want a natural, soft eye, you would use the “Go Natural” kit. Or if you want a more colorful look, you can use the “Be Colorful” palette. Within each kit, there is versatility as well, which allows women to achieve different looks - from a basic, everyday look to a very dramatic look.

In fact, one trick people may not be aware of is that each kit uses the same application techniques. Once you learn how to use one face kit, you know how to apply all of them.

Simple, Simple, Simple
Because the face kits create a simple routine, women may run out of one color faster than the others. I created the kits to be refillable, so once one color runs out, you can buy that color and pop it into the kit. Easy as that! Women love this feature!

There’s more…
I’d love you to come by and see me at the Pop of Pink Glam Bar & Boutique in Bellville to learn more or you can check out the face kits on my website. I also am available at any time of day through my helpful how-to videos where I show you how to achieve different looks with the face kits.

If you love color and helping women look and feel their best like me, join my team! I’m looking for make-up artists to create their own business with Pop of Pink Cosmetics.

I hope I’ve inspired you to simplify your make-up routine while creating a beautiful look!

How to Get a Summer Glow Using My Favorite Products

PictureGleam Body Radiance is on the right! Left leg is bare.
You should know, I’m obsessed with taking care of my skin - whether protecting it from the sun with COOLA products or making sure to clean and moisturize it every morning and night to counteract the signs of aging.

Even though I do my best to protect my skin from the sun, I do like a little bit of color during the summer. I have two easy and effective ways to achieve a healthy, summer glow: sunless tanning products and Melanie Mills Hollywood Gleam Body Radiance.

I’ve tried a lot of sunless tanning products over the years and I’m always on the lookout for those that are easy to apply, give you a natural color and have a mild odor. My two favorites are the Rodan+Fields Essentials Foaming Sunless Tan product and Neutrogena’s Micro-Mist Airbrush Sunless Tan. One you rub on and the other is a spray - so two options for easy application.

Prepping Your Skin
Before you begin with a product though, I want to share some tips for prepping for and applying sunless tanner. I usually apply a coat of tanner at night before bed and after a shower. A warm bath or shower softens the skin, and I recommend exfoliating your skin to ensure a smooth sunless tanner application. These Clean Logic Exfoliating Gloves are an inexpensive and easy way to exfoliate your skin.

Next, apply an even amount of tanner and let it soak in for at least five minutes or until your skin is good and dry. Then wear loose fitting clothing to bed. I sometimes apply another coat in the morning to deepen the color. Again, wear loose fitting clothing. Just that quick … you’ll be sporting a healthy, summer glow!

The Products I Love!
Rodan+Fields Essentials Foaming Sunless Tan
First of all, I love the natural-looking color this product gives you. No streaky orange legs here! It’s also build-able, meaning you can apply more coats to gradually get a deeper color. It’s an actual foam, so it’s light and oil-free. Also, many sunless tanners have a strong odor, but the Rodan+Fields is very mild.

Neutrogena’s Micro-Mist Airbrush Sunless Tan
What I love about Neutrogena is that it’s a spray, which makes it simple to get even coverage and a streak free application. The spray also makes it easy to tan those hard-to-reach places. Neutrogena’s odor is also very mild and the color is very natural. A HUGE benefit of Neutrogena is that it won’t stain the palms of your hands. Ya’ll this is huge!

Both products are cost effective and certainly cheaper than paying for the harmful effects of sun damage later on.

Melanie Mills Hollywood Gleam Body Radiance
Gleam, as I call it, is another great product I use to get a nice summer glow. It’s a creamy moisturizer, make-up and glow all in one! I use it on both my face and body. To see how to achieve a natural glow using Gleam on your face, check out my how-to video here.

It comes in three shades: Rose Gold, Bronze Gold and Deep Gold. They suit any skin color and any skin color can use any shade depending on how deep of a color you are looking for.

Gleam can be applied under foundation or applied with your moisturizer on your face for a healthy glow finish.

It is also my go-to when I want my legs to have that beautiful silky summer glow. Gleam lasts all day and is transfer resistant, non-staining, no streaking, so it looks very natural.

Just like with sunless tanner, you want to exfoliate before applying to ensure smooth coverage. It’s super easy to apply. I just use the palm of my hand and apply like lotion. You can also thin it out a bit, if you like, with some lotion.

I mainly use it in the summer, but it would be great for an evening event during the year to add some color to your legs or arms. Gleam is my go-to for a quick, beautiful healthy glow!

Ladies, keep protecting your skin this summer, but don’t feel like you have to skip that summer glow. Just get it the healthy way!
