Secrets from the Makeup Artist

In my 15 years as a makeup artist, I’ve discovered so many great tips for choosing makeup, ap-plying makeup, removing makeup and so much more. Here are a few of my most surprising tips for you, my Pop of Pink gals!

Surprise! Blush last?
First of all, most ladies are in the habit of putting on their lipstick last, but I’m going to throw y’all for a loop! You should apply blush LAST - after your lipstick. Here’s why…If you apply a bright, punch of color to your lips, you don’t want to overdo your cheek color! And vice versa … If you have a nude, muted lip, you need a bigger punch of color on your cheeks. Trust me. Try it and I bet you’ll be amazed at how much more balanced your whole look will be!

Easy on the Bronzer
We all love a bit of bronzer - especially in the summer. But did you know it can also be used in the winter to brighten up pale skin? But don’t apply it just down your nose and across your cheeks. HALT! This is the quickest way to get an orange, overly (fake) tanned look. My secret tip is to take a very large, dense brush and dip it in the bronzer, shake a little off and then apply it only around the outside of the face. (Imagine drawing a ‘3’ on each side of your face.) This gives a hint of glow without going overboard.

No reason to pout over Lip Gloss
Lip gloss comes in so many gorgeous colors and really accentuates any look - from daytime to night. But a little can go a loooong way. The main complaint I get about lip gloss is that ladies don’t like its stickiness or gooeyness. Part of that is the formula, but the other part is how much you apply. Lip gloss should only be applied to the pout of your lip - which is the very center of both your top and bottom lip. This application also amps up the sex appeal! Va-va-voom! So whether you are applying lip gloss over your favorite shade of lipstick or alone, please put it ONLY on the pout of the lip.

I know I have just blown your mind, but take a deep breath and try some of these tips out. Let me know what you think! I always share a tip or two in my how-to videos or even better, stop by the Glam Bar and I’ll share more secrets with you personally.

Stay tuned for more to come from Pop of Pink!
